Step into another world

At YonderHaus, comfort, utility and conviviality are the rule, not the exception. We seek to bring hygge into our lives in the little details and the large, often by fusing tradition with novelty.

One of our favorite rituals, which is familiar to my Swiss wife but new to me, is the house shoe, or slipper. It is a simple practice employed in much of Asia and parts of Europe, for cleanliness and coziness. The slipper has a fascinating history, which you can read here.

In our home it offers the obvious sanitary benefits – especially with teen boys and during global pandemics – but more than that, it is a living symbol of the transition from the busy world of achieving and the quietude of being and vice versa.

We’d love to hear about your traditions, particularly those which create hygge in your life. Who knows…we may adopt them at YonderHaus!
